You can also take the train from Chêne Bourg (accessible by tram). The train service goes every two hours. However it is slow (2:13) and costs 28 CHF or about 20 EUR. As an advantage you are allowed to take your bike with you. You can lookup the timetables at sbb.ch.

FIY: Trains don't go from Gare des Eaux-Vives anymore because of the CEVA works. They're replaced by buses, as far as I know.

You are right - the gare d'Eaux-Vives is currently closed. Trains go from Chêne Bourg (accessible by tram) instead.
