some advice

Dear glocals,

Two month ago we had a flood in our apartment, caused by some leakage somewhere else in the building, which destroyed our parquette and the floor. We have asked/begged our Regie to repare it, but we still have not seen any handyman. I would like to ask you for advice.

* First no one cared for a while, as they were fixing the floors below. After some pressure, we finally managed to get an insurance guy from the Regie to come over to check our floor. He took no action.

* Every time the Regie kept telling us they were still working on it, but after enquiring some more three weeks later, it turned out they had done nothing.

* Then, a letter was sent to some floor company, but it had never reached it as they addressed it to US. Of course we saw the letter, but it took us a while to realize that it meant that the company itself never got any request.

And more and more delays, it's been two months now. The people do not respond to emails and when we go there, they tell us they are working on it. But how long can it really take to order a company to fix our floor?! Should be a matter of a few days.

I am getting so annoyed by it that we are trying to think about what we can do to put more pressure on them, but sofar we only came up with paying less rent until they fix it. Do you think this is a good idea? Perhaps you guys have other thoughts?

Any advice/suggestions are most welcomed.

Thanks!

Hello Marco,

The best thing you can do to get this problem fixed asap is to get a lawyer to write a letter of formal notice asking them to take action. If they don't do anything within few days, you can stop paying your rent by making a "consignation" at the competent authority. Your lawyer will advise you in this matter.

If you want me to recommand you an english speaking lawyer, just ask me.

Good luck

Hi Christian,

This sounds like a good way to proceed. Could you PM me with the contact details of the english speaking lawyer you mentioned?

Thanks,
Marco

..forgot to say, on arrival when you pay your dues, ask for someone who speaks English if you don't speak French.

As well as the "Permanance" where you turn up thjat I mentioned above, one can apparently also make an appointment. Not possible to have consultation over the phone.
