where can I buy canvas for my paintings?

Hi everyone,

I am working on some paintings and trying to move to larger sizes. But I find it difficult to find  a place to buy large size canvas (1m x 2m or so) at affordable prices. Is there any place in Geneva or some website that I can order online?

Thanks,

There's a hobby/paint shop in Plainpalais called 'Peintures Jallut', at the end of Rue Dancet.

In addition to Edward's address in rue Dancet (Jallut), there is also another shop in the same street:

http://www.bricodancet.ch/

If price is important and if you're handy, you may also make your own canvas, using some sheet/cloth painted with GESSO + make your own frame, which I did years ago when I was painting for fun.

Some explanations here (in French):

http://www.art-georges.fr/SITE_FR/pages_html/Construire_Chassis.html

Or buy the canvas and only need to build the frame.

Have never tried this on-line shop ...

Try Beaux-Arts Perrier, close to Rive. Shop is miniscule from the front, but like a Tardis inside. Staff are friendly, and there's usually someone who can speak English to help.

Thank you very much...

You can buy frame sticks at jumbo, M-Parc and probably any DIY shop.

I'm not quite sure, but name in French should be liteau or lambourde (second one a bit thicker).

You may also need a boîte à onglet to cut the frame sticks: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo%C3%AEte_%C3%A0_onglets
