Welcome to the world of tango, Tryky !

http://tango-sr.com/

And as a choice of tango school I would recommend you this one that teaches a very pure argentinian style:

I found at http://www.tangoargentin.ch/

Faux-Débutants: Tous les lundis à partir du 10 janvier 2011 (18h30-20h)

Do you think, I can just show up on Monday and start right away? I'm tempted. How advanced is "faux-débutants"? Is it enough if I learn basic step from you-tube?

I would recommend you to call Alejandro at Tangoargentin and ask how and when you can start.

If you have had no real training before, you definitely need to do the beginners course. Learning tango for a girl is not just about learning steps but more about developing a sensibility for moving with the music and following and interpreting the intentions of your partner.  Later on, when you have reached at least the intermediate level you can learn new steps by watching video-clips of ‘maestros’ dancing.

If you are eager to short-cut, you can do the intensive private course especially for women and thereafter continue with standard group courses on a more advanced level. http://www.tangoargentin.ch/?p=22

Looks like there's also a "faux-débutant" lesson today at 6.30pm (also found on the tangoargentin.ch site: http://www.tangoargentin.ch/?p=20).

The one on Monday looks like it's for learning the Milonga, specifically.

Going to see what it's like this evening :-) Worst case scenario is that the true beginners will just get tang'led up. (...ok, I freely admit the pun was terrible, but it was too tempting to pass).

See you folks there if you're around!

I know Haegar doesn’t agree with me, but I find that Tango Geneve (www.gensdetango.ch) at the Club Alpin  is the easiest place to go and dance. I took one introductory lesson there and danced there the same evening. I think theystill  have a similar course on Sundays, where you just come along, and pay for each lesson you take.

Most of the people will accept to dance with deputant(e)s, so I always recommend people not to wait until they’ve taken lots of courses before they start dancing.  Just jump into the deep end, there’s usually a nice guy/girl to fish you out.

Cheers,

Quite right Tor, I do not agree with you. Tango is danced in couples, and if the numbers m/f in the group do not work out relatively even, the odd ones won't get a partner to dance with. At this place the beginners classes are usually handled by an assistant and not by the teacher himself (besides, the teacher is an excellent.danser but a very poor pedagogue).

The tango dancing evenings at the CA are the most snobbish ones in the LacLeman region, where good dancers refuse to dance with beginners, only exception is if you are a girl with exeptional looks.

Sorry, I did not see that this was in the Geneva forum.

The prices are 160 for single and 300 for pairs at Panaderia, maybe that gives you reference.
