work B permit processing time for non-EU/EEA citizens

Hi, I am with my student B permit now and haven't finished my degree yet. I found a fulltime job recently but HR said it may be difficult for approval of work B permit for non-EU/EEA citizens (for sure she is gonna to try her best to help me).

Would any people have experience for the work B permit processing time? Is it very likely that I will be rejected by Geneva Canton Office even though my employer sponsors me? Many thanks

Hi

I was in a similar situation. It takes a long time. First your employer has to prove to the authorities that no one form EU/EEA was good enough for this position. This normally means that your position should be advertised in the unemployment office for I think a month. Once it is done, providing no one else was found, you can submit  your application. For me it took around 4 months. Best of Luck!

Thanks for your information. I checked it out and it seems I have to graduate (receive my degree) before I start my full-time job. Bad luck. still 5 months to go.

Hi everyone.

One more issue: if I claim the job as an internship that related to my study, it seems I dont need a work permit in addition to my current student permit. true or not?

the second FAQ as follows:

I am a citizen of a non-EU/EFTA state. As part of my studies, I am required to do on-the-job training, which I would like to do in Switzerland. Do I need a work permit/a residence permit for staying in the country?

Yes, you need to apply for a residence permit issued for the purpose of gainful employment. This permit will only be issued if practical training is an integral part of your study course.
