Murder at Gare Cornavin
(March 31, 2011) A 23-year-old man was arrested yesterday near Thônex (GE) for the murder of a 25-year old Algerian who was stabbed the previous evening in Geneve. The victim was found near Gare Cornavin and died of his wounds at the hospital. The presumed murderer has admitted the facts. He claims to be Libyan but is certainly Algerian.
The Geneva Police outlined that the victim was found a little after 23:00 near the round point of the train station. The man was treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital. He died from his wounds later that night. Initial information gathered by on-site investigators established that an altercation must have started at the tram stop. This fact was corroborated by witnesses.
On Wednesday, in the middle of the afternoon, the accused was spotted and arrested in the Thônex area. He was taken to police station accompanied by a person who apparently witnessed the crime and who disposed of the weapon with which the victim had tried to defend himself.
