I would suggest looking at the CLE series of books which should be avalable in bookstores.Typically the books have a 2 page format - left hand side explaining the grammar rules and right hand side with exercises. Note that you will also need to buy a book which contains the answers

IMHO you can learn a lot of vocabulary and most grammar rules by yourself through the books

In my experience you will also need some sort of formal tuition as well to practice the oral side (listening, comprehension, speaking, pronounciation) and simply "glueing" everything together as French is a very messy language with lots of exceptions

Of course there are lots of resources online to help

Cliffs Notes is good

http://www.cliffsnotes.com/foreign-languages/french/french-i

and the BBC site has a good section

http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/

Good luck

I would recommend "Le petit prince" by Saint-Exupery. The language is easy and abordable.

Assimil do some quite good books beginner, intermediate, advanced but quite expensive. If I can find them, you can have them and the CDs, send a PM.

There are now iPad apps, which are really good because it's interactive, simultaneous speaking, reading, listening.

Look at www.buusu.com, they have a lot of free tuff and then some "premium material" you can also use them to find exchanges.

If you're looking for a teacher, try Lucie Baggi in professional services, she is very good.

Courage et bonne chance
