"Friendly people, Fun activities"? Or just the elite few?

http://www.glocals.com/things-to-do/geneva/48194.htm

I came across the above in my updates from friends and I've found the "chat" between Thomas L and Paul E quite astonishing.

Whilst totally understanding the need to make people aware of their fitness level, ability to hike, danger of the mountain, compatability of the group etc etc., unless they're missing an arm and a leg, then surely no-one has the right to judge someone else's ability and make a decision based on that (possibly incorrect) judgement.

I don't actually see how this got past the regulators as an "glocals activity", as it is clearly an elitist climbing group (charging for the pleasure) and the "leader" (and his mate, Paul E) obviously don't want any of us "unreliable" fellow glocals to accompany them.

Futhermore if you do sign up, then you can forget getting a response from the organiser as he has no intention of contacting you.

I've posted a mountain hike tomorrow, so if any of you unreliable, unwashed, unpleasant, no hoper, unfit, layabouts want to join me, I'd be delighted.

BTW - before either Bill or Paul dive into a damage limitation excercise to protect any damage to their hugely inflated egos and delete the comments - here's the genuinely innocent question that started the spat:

Goes up high in the sky, might be interested. What is SCIG and why do you ask for a club tax for this hike ? (and why do you ignore glocal messages if you advertise on glocals ?)

And here's the spat:

Thomas - this is the sort of question that people who organise events dread because it is clearly designed to waste people's time. I appreciate that living in Lausanne you might not have heard of the SCIG but the rules of the club (10fr for members and 30 for non members) are not for you to query. You do not like them then you do not take part in the hike. Furthermore it is not for you to decide how Bill organises and communicates with participants. For my outings I ignore all messages sent via glocals for two reasons 1 My walks are organised either for the CAS or Oxygène 74 and for friends and I extend the invitation to glocals members who are obliged to contact me as the others do. Either by email or the CAS website 2. Glocals people are notoriously unreliable - this is not just my view. So if they do not read how to register they probably have not read the rest of the message and I do not regard them as serious. So if you are interested I would suggest you send an email to bill advising your experience as this is a serious hike, verging on alpinism. Having looked at your profile and digested your 'goes high up in the sky', I sense that you are not an experience mountain hiker

Wow, Mr “Paul E”, there seems to be a serious mountaineer climbing high up there! When checking out this event I didn’t know that I might end up in a training camp for the foreign legion. I know Reinhold Messner, but I don’t know you (should I?) nor why you feel obliged to respond to my request in this quite impolite manner (which I even didn’t send to YOU!!). Still I do not understand why you offer hikes for glocals if you consider them (thus including me !) as “notoriously unreliable”, if you “do not regard them as serious” and their messages are “designed to waste people’s time” (end of citations). Mountain disease? Ivresse de l’altitude ? Furthermore, I don’t know how you want to judge my physical condition from my glocals profile (are you “Profiler” ?). Fortunately, glocals do not request medical certificates to be published on their web-site! So in turn, I checked out your profile. Conclusion: I certainly walk a bit slower in the mountains than you, but I think I have much more fun !!

Better than the footie? Non?
