There's one Silhoutte gym supposed to be quite good in Rue de Valentin 32, can't tell for myself but know a few people that are there and are quite happy, its quite big, not too crowded, it has swimming pool. Maybe worth checking

Hi Gabi,
Which gym did you end up choosing? I am looking for something as well and looking for something not too expensive. Can you please tell me if you are in a contract with the gym and how much that costs?
Thanks,
Sharon

I am on the same mission – to find a gym – and I think I have found my match. I did visit both Silhoutte in R. Valentin (looks really nice and love the pool) and Holme’s (not so impressed), but then I stumbled over a chain called Let’s Go.
Let’s Go offer several gyms in the French-speaking part of Switzerland and you can use all for the same price. The facilities are good, some newer than others, friendly staff and you get up to 500 CHF back on your obligatory health insurance, depending on your provider. Check out www.letsgo-fit.ch for more information.
Here are some of the rates I remember from the gyms I visited:
Silhouette
Membership adm. fee (one time): 99.-
12 month: 999.-
or 99.-/month
Includes swimming pool admission. You can choose to subscribe to the “wet”-area only.
Holme’s Place
Membership adm. fee (one time): 350.-
135.-/month
Rate incl. amenities such as towels/soap, Jacuzzi and Turkish baths, but not the Power Plate facilities. You need to sign up for 24 months and 3 appointments at additional cost with a trainer. Your company may have an agreement giving you a lower rate. They feature special offers with discounted admission now and then. Also partnering with Spas etc for good deals.
Let’s Go
Membership adm (one time): less than 100 CHF
12 month: 890.-
or 89.-/month
Check your gym for facilities as some do not offer group classes.
All gyms offer off-peak hour and student rates. You can choose to pay a discounted yearly fee or pay per month. The gyms generally offer cardiovascular and weights equipment as well as group classes. If you are looking for the club/spa experience, check out Migros Fitness Park Malley (www.fitnessparc-malley.ch)
This info should be up to date, but I do apologize if you find errors :)
Wish you luck and maybe see you in class?
Kind regards,
Lene

Hi Lene,
Thanks for the reply. We've just arrived this weekend from Holland so any tips you can give would be great. This week, I plan to search for phone contracts and banks. I also have to look for a job as well.
Regards,
Sharon

Hi Sharon,
It wont be a problem to open a bank account, now that you have arrived. CreditSuisse and UBS are the largest ones, but you can also go local. We went with CreditSuisse, English-speaking and all :)
For phone, Swisscom is the largest operator providing fixed phone/Internet/TV/cell phone in a flash.
You will need your residency to get a mobile subscription however. Before that, you will only get prepaid.
Talk later!
