Looking for a french school. Anybody exprience with Migros?

Hi all!

Im looking for a french school in Lausanne, evening classes after 18.00 since im woring during the day. Was thinking about Migros Ecole, went to see their website, but could not really discover any info whether there are any eve classes and what are the school fee? Anybody got experience with it? how much do you pay at Migros for a course?

Hi, I'm gonna start french lessons in a "semi-intesif-cours" in Lausanne at Migros klub the 20.06.2012, two times a week, from 18.50-19.50 (monday and wednesday). I think I will pay around 540 sF for 36 lessons. I can't tell you anythink about the cours but I've heard nothing bad about Migros school until today.

On the Migros school homepage you can enter your location, the language, what level you are/you want to go and then it says to you the opportunities you have.

Maybe see you at Migros :-)

Hello Stephanie! Times seem to be perfect! Thanks for sharing! I was planning to start somewhere in august or september. do you know if there any fixed opennnings dates to start? Also, to sign up with the course, did you go there directly and chose the one you want or did you do any test to define your french level? Thanks a lot!

Hi Olga, My suggestion is not to waste money in migros. I wasted mine, don't want you to waste.

Try to find courses in universities, the teachers are much better. Otherwise, these so called formation courses offered by canton ( for refugees, others etc).

Good luck.

Hi Olga, now, my cours started and I'm very confident. We are 5 people at nearly the same french-level, having a nice and friendly teacher. We speak a lot, only in french, not too much grammar, homeworks and vocabulary to learn at home. For sure, you have to learn and work for yourself at home, but I think thats self-evident.

I saw your questions today, sorry for not responding until know: you can do a test at the homepage of migros-school, after this you know your level. You have to do the test before starting the courses. After this, you can choose the cours you want and register online. But if you want to do all this things personally at the school its possible too, only go there, they are very nice.

Hope you will have my good experience too!! Sorry for the others with bad experiences at Migros, thats not funny, to loose a lot of money ...

My suggestion to everyone would still be wisely investing your money in a cantonal schools or university offered courses.

BECAUSE when i took migros courses, i felt so good, i thought what a nice teacher, so low workload etc..... once i took courses offered by canton; i realise what a crap migros courses were. My view is that migros teachers don't know how language is learnt, they apply random methods which will require you to take a lot of further migros courses, after all that's the aim for Migros. That's the difference between migros and other schools where language is taught systematically. Also, if you are italian or swiss german, mirgos courses will be just fine to elarn french :-). For foreigners, i wouldn't recommend. I spent 1200 chf for two semesters, only to realise i wasted it once i took courses from university. it was a lot of money and i felt really bad about it.

Hm, I spent 6 weeks in another school before migros, having a intesif cours, learing frenchbasics and exhume french from school every day. This was ok, it was very intesive with a lot of work (at home too) and now I have the feeling, that I'm well prepared to change to the Migros system, its another thing, to learn like this. Its more free, more talking, you have to learn at home, but the most importante thing, to speak the language with a teacher and your classmates, you can do at the school.

At least, how you learn a language is a thing you have to manage with yourself I think so. You have to find the best system/method for yourself. And it depends, why you learn it.

MMigros... I tend to agree with Dark G too. Unless you can get a group together and all sign up for the same course. However, Inlingua and Berlitz and Supercomm are not much better.

One to one lessons are the best if you can afford it, or the EPFL language exchange, if you find the right person. It's alot about finding the right teacher / group.

bussu.org is a good cheap option.

As Dark G said, Migros school is not the best you can get out here. I've been learning German there for a few years now and it all depends on the teacher you get. Some are trained teachers, some are just native langage speaker and have no clue how to teach.

The good thing is, you can ring on the day when the course starts and ask for two free trial nights. That way, you'll see if you like the teacher, the method ...
