Moving to Lausanne

Hi Guys,

In September I will be moving to Lausanne with my partner. We're currently living in Divonne-Les-Bains in France and this will be my first time moving into Switzerland.

Could you please advise which websites are the best looking for property? We're looking for a 2 bedroom flat for <1,800CHF ideally. If anyone is moving out of their place in September and has something similar a heads up would be appreciated!

We're also concerned as to what information we will need to provide to our new landlord. I imagine some pay slips, a copy of my permit and my passport? Along with 2 months rent up front or something like that?

I'm on a G permit at the moment as I live in France. What is the process of changing my Swiss permit? Should it be done before I move to Lausanne or once I'm moved in?

Any tips would be hugely appreciated :-) and any fellow lausanners who fancy giving me headsup on the best local and would like to go for a few drinks one night please give me a shout!!

Hi Will,

There are several websites to find a rental:

immostreet.ch
immoscout24.ch
anibis.ch

You will need to either put a 2 month rent on an escrow account or to subscribe a rental insurance like this one: swisscaution.ch

The new landlord will tell you what you need to provide, usually it's your passport and a couple of pay slips.

You can only do your Swiss permit when you actually move. You can't do it before.

You'll need to fill out this form and bring it with you or you can pick one up at the Control des Habitants (which is where you'll need to go to apply for your permit). You also need your passport, work contract, rental agreement and a photo (or two)

It's also common that landlords (or regies) ask you to bring an attestation de non-poursuite (that you obtain at the Office des Poursuites) and a slip of RC (Responsabilite Civile). And of course, once you find your appartment they will request a deposit (usually 3 months rent equivalent placed in a "caution account" or you can use an organism like SwissCaution if you don't want to block the money).
