Nazis on Lutry Beach?

What's the law here?I was with about 12 younger friends for a picnic/BBQ at Lutry beach Saturday from 2pm.We were drinking and laughing but well-behaved and had no Beat Box in tow.Around 11.30 pm,with hardly anyone on the beach(but buvette still all lit up and open),security person came to tell us we had to leave and stood by as we collected our stuff(a bit slowly being.....a bit the worse for wear)As we left I thought.....but WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? Isn't Lutry a public beach? How can you move people on?

What if we had gone away.....but come back pretending to be lone individuals just sitting by the water. What would they have done?is one prohibited from sitting at the beach beyond midnight alone?

What exactly is going on here? I'm wondering what right security guards have to move people on.Do they indeed HAVE a right? What kind of country IS this???

Comments/explainations please(this almost beats the acapella silencing incident in Geneva some years ago)

Or, when the guard arrives just say "no, I don't recognise your authority and I won't leave."  Hilarity shall ensue.

If as you say you had been drinking steadily for 9 1/2 hours, your so called good behaviour was probably disturbing other users of the beach.  And drunken laughter is not the quietest of pastimes.

It depends on the location.   Had you done it in one of the seedier areas maybe you could have continued drinking for 12 hours

I have been approached by security on several occasions when our running group, the hash house harriers, has started impromptu drinking after a run. This drinking seession rarely lasts more than half an hour and we tidy up after before repairing to a licensed establishment.  So stop complaining about being approached after 9 1/2 hours.  Come to Geneva where you might manage half an hour.  Nobody in our group has ever complained about harrasment

We are not rowdy people. We work in education. We were a little bit the worse for wear but definitely not noisy AND we cleared everything away, brought bags for recycling etc etc.

The problem seems ,to me,that people who live in posh places get taken care of and people who live in what you call ¬seedy¬places don`t get noisy people chased away.

I think the issue may be less about living in a "posh vs. seedy" place, and more about being in a smaller town vs. a large city. In the smaller town, it is easier for the local law enforcement to respond to a noise complaint (let's ignore the fact that your group were not noisy for the moment) than it would be in a large city (like Geneva), where they would be more likely to respond to more "urgent" matters and let the little things like noise complaints slide.

What I have observed when it comes to noise complaints is that police/guards/landlords/etc. tend to err on the side of the complainer rather than the object of the complaint in order to maintain peace, whether the complainer is justified or not.

So it is very likely that your group, tipsy, blotto, or otherwise, simply fell into that situation where the security people had nothing else to occupy their time, someone decided that it was more important to complain than to close a window, and you were rousted.

The thing is....we weren't making any noise -and we were right next to the buffet which was stillopen and had loads of clients still sitting outside!

That's the irony

The mild inconvenience caused to a group of drunk people being asked to call-it-a-night palls into absurd insignificance when compared to the human rights atrocities of the Nazis during the period before and during the second world war – leaving nearly 60m people dead so that you can party and whinge freely.

I find it extremely offensive that you should belittle the horrors associated with this nomenclature to berate an individual for simply carrying out his job. The ease with which you insult a race and a generation leads me to think you were not quite so innocent and respectful in this mundane affair of civil society and noise abatement as you would have us believe.

Either way, shame on you for flippantly citing the Nazi-card with such gay-abandon over such a trivial matter. As you say, this was a public space, I’m sure if another member of the public had asked you to quieten down, you would have objected saying you were there first...

Hi -Yes,you are absolutely right.i take your point. There has been a lot of discussion about this use of "Nazi" in the UK recently.I understand your point totally.

Let's say....."uptight,too conformist people" instead.

Sorry for the flippancy - yes,Nazism is a whole other subject. It was a careless shorthand and i should know better.

Sorry.
