Hi fellows,
Can anyone direct me what should I do to get a driving license in VD. I never had any experience with cars, but would love to drive one day.
How much money should I prepare, and how long may it take? Any advise is welcome!
Thanks!
Vit

Hey Milo,
The general procedure to get a driver's license here is:
1. Go to the circulation office and subscribe (u should pay admin fees and take an application form). Admin fees ~ 200 CHF.
2. Eye sight test. (can be done almost anywhere where they sell medical glasses). ~ 10 CHF.
3. take the first-aid course. ~ 150 CHF.
4. pass the theoretical exam. (included in the admin fees paid in 1).
5. Yet another course (sensibilisation). ~ 150 CHF.
6. Practical Exam (demonstration). (included in the admin fees paid in 1).
Then that's it...
it will practically take something between 2 to 4 months (the time-consuming part would be the courses and their schedules).
I hope this gives u a first idea... Good luck! ;-)

also, you will need to sign up with a driving school and take a minimum of 11 one hour lessons ( or maybe more, it may have changed) = this may cost about 1000-1200 sfr.
you can take the (theory/written)exam in many different languages, however, best is to take it in french. as many questions will use language from the federal driving code ( in french) in the answers and similar answers are often confusing as they may be understood to mean the same thing, but are NOT taken from the federal driving code.
also, be aware of the "legal" vocabulary used in the choices given-this is a "free" answer because the vocabulary is taken again from the federal driving code!!.

what is the sensibilisation exam for?
To make you sensible. This is Switzerland after all.
