Yes - people need to be more aware.Coming here from a part of London with a high crime rate,I've always felt very at ease in Lausanne,but in recent times things have changed.

I was robbed by two guys at the station -who watched me use my card and got a hefty sum out of my account by using the number within minutes ,as well as taking my cash and documents.

Other friends have had their money stolen  in bars and cafés

.A Swiss friend has had his flat burgled twice(near the station)

It's worth being more aware.

I got robbed last November in front of Lausanne train station too. I think I had been less careful since living in Switzerland whereas I used to really pay attention in Paris... it's not as bad as Marseille yet (where I got my car burnt down...) but as Buzz said it's indeed worth being more aware...

Switzerland has been so protected over the years - the crime rate is so much lower than elsewhere in large cities in the world. But it is now increasing drastically in CH and people need to be that much more aware and no longer be complacent. It's a great shame, but this is unfortunately the real world nowadays.

I had physically attacked and my phone got taken out ofmy hands, again late night near St. Francois. Prior to that my wallet has been stolen from my purse near the Riponne from my daughter's stroller. So yes, be careful.

Isn't this truly awful when it happens to you? I felt physically sick when my purse with all my holiday money - a substantial sum - was stolen in Züri-Bahnhof - a well-known place for pickpockets. Now I always carry anything valuable in a "tummy bag" and cover this with a jacket or coat - what a pity that we have to go to such lengths these days, but we do.

Now I walk as a paranoid always looking back - checking who is walking behind me. I had another incident when a guy tried to steal my luggage in the train when I was returning from my trip from Geneva airport. I had my daughter sleeping in my hands, whereas her luggage was in the stroller. So I noticed it disappeared within the seconds and chased the guy down (with sleeping child in my hands) to the next car and took it back. I feel I have been starring in the gangster movies, seriously. It's extremely disturbing and emotionally draining...Have travelled all around the world, and never had any such experience anywhere...but in safe Switzerland
