Starting a Poetry Reading club in Lausanne

Hi all,

I'm willing to start a Poetry Reading club in Lausanne.

Idea would be to gather (place to be defined). Everybody willing to read would have its slot and either read out loud its own production or any material seemed fit.

I have seen this under the name Spoken Word in Paris. Each evening was a joy to hear people personal works or personel inspirations.

Any language would of course be accepted.

Are some people interested ?

Could some suggest a place that would seem fit ?

Please answer the thread.

Best.

What a great idea. But can you tell us more e.g do people at these events mostly read their own work? are they mostly poets themselves? is it a space where feedback is given? does one need to have a " good" reading voice or is it simply about sharing stuff we love,?etc

I would be interested .....but I am not a poet and am not doing any creative writing at the moment.

Who ever wants to read out reads.

Nobody's really a poet anyway.

It'd be mostly the joy of reading out loud.

Not much feedback I guess, just the flow of reading.

You could also read out loud something you've enjoyed reading.

That's Spoken Word in Paris, to get a glimpse:

looks like a great thing in Paris.Could be great in London to ( where I come from) Not sure if it could take off in Lausanne ( Creative writing and Cafe Philo had difficulties here - you might have more success with a hiking group or workshops on how to do business networking ...)

Hopefully,we might....just might....find a few more people,but don't get too excited

I love English poetry, and I would be interested in participating in such an event. However, I agree with buzzcocks above that in Lausanne people generally tend to drift towards certain types of events and activities (and hence away from others). I used to attend a lot of poetry readings in Cornell (where I did my Ph.D.), and also met some famous poets such as Seamus Heaney and A.E. Stallings. Poetry readings can be a lot of fun and a good social activity. If you organise something, I'm happy to join and also to contribute at an organizational level.

Maybe it won't work.

I'll give it a try though.

Enough with boring networking events.

Tell me about it!  Almost 500 people in my "Movie Night" Group and the same 6/7 people turn up every time!  Maybe we should start a "vine group" Cheers! :-)

Hi Yash, thanks for your enthusiasm. I'll lead the communication effort if you don't mind. I'll probably more gather on community on FB, as I aim to reach out to university students, as I think many would enjoy poetry reading.

But thanks,

Whoever finally gets this off the ground, please do make it visible so that those of us who are interested can get involved ( I know from experience it is not easy to keep track of all the people who ask to be kept informed) If you publicise it on the site,we can then get involved :-)

BTW,I am happy to offer my living room from time to time as a venue for readings.

Thanks all for your enthusiasm !

I created a dedicated FB Page. The aims is to gather a large (extra glocals) community.

Hopefully I'll bring Uni students in !

Let Spoken Word Lausanne grow.

Once enough members, we'll launch the first events ! Exciting !

Hello Thomas & the other enthusiasts,

I love the idea and Love Poetry, would happily join :) Used to belong to a poetry group in Dublin-Ireland and it worked pretty much like the one you described.

All the best,

Ana

Hi all,

I added a thread on the FB page to call out for poets (French, English, any langugage you're comfortable in) to know how many would up to read their works or from others.

Aim is to plan out first event. You can answer on the thread at https://www.facebook.com/spokenwordlausanne/

Hey Thomas,

I suggest that you simply organise an event at a time convenient for you! In the beginning you might get only a few attendees, but the word will gradually spread. I'm sure at least some of the people in this thread will already be attending.
