What to do in Madrid with a nine-year old?

All,

I'm planning to take my nine-year old son to Madrid in mid-April to watch Real Madrid. I'd like to spend some time in (possibly around) Madrid, but what can you do with a boy in that age?

Any ideas? Arts and fine culture probably won't cut it, we're more talking about excitement and experiences, perhaps with some nature experiences and the occassional history (war) museum...

Suggestions welcome! I'll bring a selection of Madrilene delicacies back to the best effort ;-)

Hi Henrik, closer to the date I suggest you take a look at the program for kids for that week. I can take a look at it for you, if you don't speak Spanish. But you will need to remind me please  :-)

In general terms, the Retiro Park is the place to go on a Sunday or Staurday Morning, specially if there is good wheather.

There are usually activities(theater, museums,workshops..) for kids, but most of them if not all will be in Spanish.

Faunia is also a good place to go if you like animals, but it is a bit far from the city centre.

Drop me an email a week before you go, and I hope to be able to help.

Enjoy Madrid!

Hi Lina

Thank you for offering to help. Do you know where I can find such programs (I can read a bit of Spanish)? I'm thinking something like Pariscope, Time Out or similar.

Are there any 'must-dos' in or around Madrid for kids, similar to, say, EuroDisney or Legoland? Or a fantastic waterpark or something?

Best
