Just for info' , in the UK, Smoking jacket is a very old term now, probably from the 1950's or even earlier, tuxedo is little used if at all. They are referred to as dinner suits (in the UK), and it would not surprise me if they are still called smoking jackets here! Let me know what they call it here, please!

I often wore a DJ to events in the UK, as recently as New Years eve, but we never called them a tuxedo! Not a word used for many a year.....anyway, happy to differ!
"Manteau a diner" didn't work in Paris last year, but Smoking Jacket did! Maybe they thought I wanted to eat a coat!!?:D

Smoking jacket - used to be velvet, even green in colour...yuk! Quite different from an evening jacket.
Tuxedo - favoured term in USA!
Dinner suit/jacket - favoured term in UK
