I totally agree with Charlotte Lyon is a big city (I've never been but anyway) and you can find everything ( I suppose)
I don't know what you mean by shopping... but you can also check Evian-les-bains and Thonon-les-bains Just take the boat and go!!

For gva, Annemasse and Thoiry. For Lausanne, Pontarlier/Doubs.
As mentioned above, Lyon, which is the best but is also 2 hours away.
I like Pontarlier too. Take the Mway direction Yverdon and before Yverdon take the mway signposted Vallorbe/Besançon, up to Ballaigues, over border crossing and up the beautiful road below the Mt d'Or Cliffs to Jougne. There is an ATAC supermarket there, also opened on Sundays. Or over the pass and down the hill to Pontarlier. The town is small, but lots of boutiques and small shops, with a realloy nice traditional brasserie in the centre with a day's menu for aobut Euro 7.50.
If you take the circular by-pass road, you will find a large out of town shopping area, with several Hypermarket, HyperU, Géant, and also towards Houteaud, Leclerc and Liddle, and several large stores for shoes, toys, baby stuff and of course DIY. Perhaps make time to visit the Chateau de Joux just before Pontarlier- or go to the lovely Lac St Point- which has several excellent restaurants, like Le Lac, or the Michelin starred Au Bon Accueil, in Malbuisson.

BTW and sorry for digression. If there is anybody here from Haiti or Domenican Republic, a visit to the Chateau de Joux just before Pontarlier is a must. It was the Castle where Napoleon emprisonned Toussaint l'Ouverture - his only black General turned head of the anti-slavery revolutionary movement which freed the Island from France, and did put an end to slavery on the island. 100s of Haitian and Domenicans visit every year.
