The Université populaire du Canton de Genève [People's University] charges a really basic fee per semester plus the cost of a textbook for courses in French, German, English and several other languages. Enrolment is open to all, irrespective of educational achievement, nationality, etc.
However, classes are held in town in the evenings and only during the school year because all the teachers give their services free of charge. If you contact the Université now, you may be able to get advance notice of the classes being organized in September.
The street address is 23 rue du Vuache, 1201 Genève; 022 339 05 00; [email protected]
All the best, Ritchie
(I used to teach English there many moons ago.)

I fully agree with Tinkie, a native french speaker as girlfriend/boyfriend would be best.
However, my wife wouldn't agree to this ;).

Tamar Hello,
I was wondering if you found any where. I currently have 1 to 1 lessons which is great for the detail and grammer etc....but, I would really like to join a group class where I get to practice chatting and listening to others too. If you found any where good, please do share and thanks to everyone else for all the top tips via the thread.
Cheers, Elianne

Hi
I have been teaching french for the last 20 years, am a french native, have grown up in NYC, thus am perfectly bilingual.
I tailor my classes to your needs: first lesson is free and is to evaluate your level and show you my method based on internet exercices, paperbook exercices, reading, speaking and writing. I mix lots of different technics according to level and needs and my teaching evolves with the student's progress.
I can teach anywhere in Geneva from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., from monday to friday. Lunch break slots are quite busy. Internet or Wifi access is compulsory
We can even work out a discount for an upfront payment for group or multiple lessons.
Currently teaching one on ones at a permanent foreign Mission in geneva. On-going multi private lessons as well. Numerous references available upon request.
Review on Glocals available following this link:

Hope this appeals to you :)

A friend of mine just opened a languages school.
It is in the center of geneva, and I think it is not very expensive (190/month for 3 lessons per week):

University classes are also an option and shouldn't be very expensive.
According to me, the best method would be talking French with Swiss people :D
