I love the book, the other movies, and the musical, but this one is some kind of a disaster.

I agree; with the exception of Samantha Banks (Eponine) the singing didn't even come close to the musical. And Anne Hathaway maybe.

Yeah, I seen Les Miserables in Los Angeles Theatre and as such I was expecting something as spectacular, and oh was a so let down. I was expecting something big, like a 'Sound of Music' movie or 'Phantom of Opera'.
Also with so many top list actors. Funny was not many french actors???
But it was so boring, It was hard to watch the whole movie, I hoping it would get better, and it never did.

Obviously the idea of hiring top-list actors was to attract people who wouldn't normally watch Les Miserables, and it backfired. Russell Crowe messed up all of Javert's solos, and even though Hugh Jackman has a decent voice he simply couldn't handle 'Bring Him Home' which is supposed to be the highlight of the musical. It may have worked financially, but there's absolutely no reason to watch this (with the exception of Samantha Barks singing 'On My Own', which was great).
Here's how Bring Me Home should sound (from the 10th anniversary concert, by Colm Wilkinson who played the priest in the movie):

Was hoping something like that as well.
Cheap production design, ugly set (could not even recognize Paris), poor (to say the least) direction and staging (why all those close-ups on the singing actors??), involuntarily funny (the barricades scene is really something).
2/10 (for the original story & music)

Yes it is based on some novel, but being a musical the score is much more important that the book: so Shonberg but look it up on wikipedia I am not here to google that for you. Opinions of the film are above, I have to agree was a bit disappointing better to go see in the theater if you can

Hi all,
I am sorry to hear that none of you liked it.
I thought it was a good movie, Anne Hathaway was fantastic as always.
But it is just my opinion.

I have to say I liked Ali G but not for his singing but the comic appeal. Maybe it should be a dubed a Hollywood pantomime not musical
