I am also a big fan of novels with good stories, but these days i am running out of good novels, i am tired of stories like "the killer who knows the girl" or "the girl who knows the killer" maybe new authors are out there with good stories. I usually choose a book by the front cover of it, you know we say that the book choose you and you are not choosing the book. So what are you reading right now ? "and please don't give me number 23" i saw the movie :)
For Glocals who lives in Lausanne, we have a great selection of english books at the public library in Chaudron for free, if you live outside Lausanne, you got to pay 30frs.-a year.

Has never once let me down. And I chose Cloud Atlas because the cover matched my nail polish. I have enjoyed every singe one of his books enough to read them more than once.
If you like airport books, Rickman and Rankin will cover both your supernatural and crime thriller genres. For serial killers, P.J. Tracy does a pretty good job. I also like Kathy Reichs.
For chick-lit, I love Jennife Crusie and Marian Keyes.
Those are my off the top of my head suggestions, hopefully, others will add to this list as well.
This holiday, I am reading "Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life" an excellent primer to Feng Shui, and pretty much anything by Louis L'Amour, as I hit the bookshops, I'm sure I'll be getting into more trouble.
What's everyone else reading?

Is a great trilogy, book 1 - The Northern Lights (Or in the cinema as the Golden Compass) Book 2 - The subtle knife, book three - the amber spyglass. Phil Pullman has a fantastic way of setting the scene and pulling you into an amazing world which seems like ours but has some differences, some subtle, some striking. I seriously recommend this trilogy. Just don't read the first book before seeing the Golden Compass, it will ruin the film for you.

am reading We Need to Talk About Kevin. Kevin is a boy who did a "Columbine" and the book is written from the mother's perpsective in the form of letters she writes to her estranged husband (Kevin's father). Proving to be an emotionally difficult read for me -brings another meaning to "you dont choose you your parents are" and "nurture vs nature". Just finished the epic World Without End - Ken Follet's sequel to Pillars of the Earth. Good read and if you are a fast reader, then you'll be doubly happy coz it lasts a little longer than most novels.

But, what I love about him, at least with Cloud Atlas, is I read it at a time when I was extremely tired of linear plots. Mitchell tends to use multiple narratives to tell a story. The stories may not be particularly exciting when you think about them, but they are definitely worth being told the way Mitchell tells them.
I <3 David Mitchell, if you can't tell.

by Jonathan Safran Foer was a great discovery in 2007 for me - amazingly original, full of humour and sensitivity. I have been offering it to all my friends since!

Somewhere in time, By Richard Livingstone. (same Author who wrote I am Legend, film currently showing with Will Smith, which is also a very good book, although is quite different)
Ben Elton . Blind Faith.. A post climate change England where everyone is online and encouraged to share all aspects of their life at all times, good satire of a completely different type of "1984" dysopia.
Richard Morgan.. Black Man.. Genetically bred soldiers, and what to do with them after the war?
Mark Haddon.. A spot of bother.. the slow slide into dementia as experienced by one father and husband.. (not as depressing as that sounds!)
As already mentionned by others, We need to talk about Kevin is excellant. as Is extreemly loud and incredably close.

Some recent good books I've read are "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini, "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffeneger and for a little action/suspense, "Prey" by Michael Crichton and "The Eight" by Katherine Neville
For non-fiction, "The Tipping Point" and "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell were both excellent.

A fantastic novel at the time of the great Persia (around the birth of religions).
Again a novel: 'Q' by Luther Blisset.
