Australia - not bad at all
I did not really want to go to see this one because I feared it would turn out to be something uninspiring and dull like Pearl Harbor (except the bombing 20 mn that were incredible). I must say that I should be more careful in judging before seing or knowing. I do not usually read critics to avoid being biased but sometimes I judge a movie before watching it and that is not fair.

Australia is a good movie, it has historic references, passion, romance, adventure, crime, poetry and magic. You have the beautiful heroine, the good guy that is rough on the outside (with his sculptured body) but has a big big heart... the unscrupulous rich owner, his second, a deceitful and cruel villain... and finally the cute little child that has lost his identity. I love the poetic idea of singing someone/something to you... that the child uses through the movie. I have tried but it has not worked yet... I will continue to try!

All this is nicely filmed, with good rhythm and fun. It recalls different great successes of the past and pays tribute to the Wizard of Oz (watch for the little magic trick during the screening of the movie). The Wizard of Oz is a politico/economic metaphor to be watched again in these difficult times!

In a nutshell Australia is a good movie, with everything that you need to have a good time. It is really worth a go.

Sorry, but i disagree.

But liking or disliking is personal choice. But my recommendation for future viewers would be to get a DVD and give it a miss at cinemas.

Even Nicole Kidman struggled to watch and agreed to the fact that her acting was horrible in the movie.:w00t:

The plot misses something and many a times we think that the movie is over, but it still continues..:hehe:

I would give 2/5 for the acting by the kid and some sequences.

Oh, I disagree with you about waiting for the dvd! I think Australia is the best kind of movie to see on the big screen. If it weren't January and the fact that there isn't one, it's the perfect movie for a drive-in! The scale of the country and story lend themselves to huge screen viewing.

Also, the article I read about Nicole Kidman being uncomfortable watching the movie is because she never watches her own work, except for once before, Moulin Rouge. She went to the Australia premiere as a favor to Luhrmann.

I loved the movie. My parents and I went to see it when I was home and the theater was absolutely packed. My mom found a single seat in the second row and my dad and I were smack in the first row in the theater. Hugh Jackman's arms were never so huge! I'm going with some colleagues tomorrow and I can't wait.
