The Radiant City
Lauren B. Davis
"Matthew Bowles, a freelance war correspondent, comes to Paris to write a memoir but is haunted by his experiences in Sarajevo, Chechnya, and Rwanda. Discovering a city of refugees and expatriates rippling with racial tension and the anger of the dispossessed, Matthew finds himself torn between two poles: the seedy world of his troubled friend Jack, a Vietnam veteran; and Saida, a woman fleeing the terrors of war-torn Lebanon with a fiery determination to steer her son away from the city’s darker underbelly. Moving from Paris’ unseen quarters to some of the world’s most turbulent places, The Radiant City explores the harm we suffer and the comforts we are drawn to. "
Lauren B. Davis studied creative writing at the Humber School for Writers in Toronto, and at Indiana University. She is the author of The Stubborn Season, as well as a collection of short stories, Rat Medicine & Other Unlikely Curatives. A well-respected creative writing teacher, her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Exile, The Queen Street Quarterly, and The Literary Review of Canada. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Lauren lived in France for ten years. She now lives in Princeton, New Jersey.
