Well, the movie is fine nothing more, typically those movies that today try to build a hit by touching a specific argument and playing on nostalgia (Disco times). However it has not the great originality of Podium (based on Claude François hits) or the charm of Across the Universe (musical based on Beatles songs). I have decided to put a soundtrack in my life, MP3 is a great thing. I bought one last year with another idea for its use but now I will keep it for me and put songs for the different moods in life. When you need a boost you play some songs, when you feel in love, when you are happy or sad other songs... so your personal life is a musical. Nothing new ok but the MP3 allows you to carry all the most important songs in such a small device, just great...
It is funny because at the age of twenty I had two great ideas, one was to use great hits and build a story around it. Then came out On connait la chanson (great French movie) and I gave up. Then followed the musicals Mama mia and Across the Universe and this gives me hope that I can still do it too. So may be for my movie I will use that direction. We will see. The second great idea was to write a novel using Greek gods living in the 20th century, in London. They would all be lost because nobody cared anymore about them, Zeus would be following a psychotherapy because he would feel useless and rather depressed... and then what did I see the other day in the bookshop, a novel just about that! We should be able to copyright ideas!!!
Well all this to say that I was expecting maybe too much from Disco. In the end it is just fine, some touching moments but rather conventional and without surprise. You can wait for the DVD and rent it or see it in a couple of years on TV.
