I was so excited to go see this film with a friend and her two girls! I stopped by Claire's and picked up a magic wand and lots of rhinestones. The girls dressed up in princess and evil queen costumes and with their mom, they all wore tiaras. Mine was a marginally less ostentatious floral/crystal headband. Amazing what you can get away with wearing when holding the hand of a four year old!
The movie. Apparently, the point of it was to send up or spoof the Disney Princess culture that has sprung up in the last less than ten years. In the wikipedia article for the film, there is a list of "official" references, and my friend was really good at spotting them. Apologies to the people sitting behind us, we probably laughed a little more often and certainly louder than we should have. It was neat to spot the characters that popped up from the world of Disney and the cartoon sequence in the beginning and the end were wonderful!
Considering the actress who played Nancy is more known for her singing, it was a pity that she didn't sing at all! I found her character (don't know if it was the actress herself or how the part was written) to be a bit jarring.
I must say I was a little let-down. I can't really put my finger on why, I have a couple of theories, but mostly it's just an "oh, okay" kind of feeling. Susan Sarandon at the ball, I want her lipstick. And Giselle's shoes were much cuter when they went shopping then those clunky, ugly stompers she wore to the ball, though, thank you, I understand the plot device.
The songs were cute and the cockroaches totally skeeved me out. It was fun to go to the movie with my friend and her girls, but I would say if you're going to see it, you probably already have and if you haven't yet, you could wait for the dvd.

What a hillariously fantastic film
I was really suprised by disney in this film, fantastic comedy, acting and had me laughing sooooo much, there are some scenes that are just classic and so unexpected. GO AND SEE THIS FILM, you will not regret it. (or maybe you will!) I thouroughly enjoyed it, oh, did I say it was really really funny!!!

I had a great time, she follows all disney pricesses like all young girls (maybe of all ages) and this princess was unique and special. This movie actually started a conversation about the difference between real life expectations and fantasy / fairytales and real life. A good conversation to have with a six year old girl.
We will be talking about this movie five years later like Shrek, Monsters Inc or Nemo? Probably not but it was a good movie, you have to bring the ability to suspend belief or reality, but that is something you should bring to every disney movie.
She believes in fairytales, she believes I believe in them too, and when I am with her, I do.
Technically the movie was a bit more like a theatrical musical than a movie musical but that was ok for me.
So for me it was worth the ticket and the price of popcorn to see it and the cost of the ice cream we had after during which the conversations from the movie were born.... well lets just say I would not put a "value" on that.
