Il Divo - excellent

This movie is just amazing and relates some aspect of the life and power of Andreotti, the emblematic leader of the democrazia christiana, the leading political party in Italy after the second world war.

It is just scary how power works. The actor that impersonates Andreotti is just amazing. And to think that Andreotti is still in the Senate and for life is just amazing. There is so much cynicism in all this it is just unbelievable. You have it all in this movie, the tragic destiny of politicians, bankers... there is the church, the mafia... just incredible how politics worked in Italy.

You really have to see it, Andreotti is just an incredible character. Extremely clever, a great strategic mind and actually a guy with a lot of humor.

In a nutshell this movie is excellent and gives a glimpse of a very dark period in Italian politics. Anybody interested in contemporary history should not miss this one.

i tend to disagree with you...one would clearly need to know a lot about the politics in italy...this movie does not cater to the general audience, even though having won a rize at cannes.....
i agree that from a cinematographer perspective the movie is brilliant!...the still shots, the setting and the music are excellent
the main actor who portrays andreotti also gives a stunning performace.....but for one to appreciate the likeness to andreotti that this actor draws upon, one would have to know who and what andreotti is all about...and this movie, only gives a glimpse of this....
for those that don't know much about italian politics...i suggest you rent the dvd and watch it along with a few italians who love politics so that you can pause the movie and have panel discussions about the political environment that existed then...a little bit like the show Polically correct :)
