If you look for a nice little movie to start 2008, The Band's Visit (La Visite de la Fanfare) might be the one. This is the story of an Egyptian band lost in Israel in a little town in the middle of nowhere.
This is a nice little movie, full of humanity, sweet, tender and funny. The actors are great, the Israeli lady very sweet. It is touching, full of humanity and do not get fooled by its simplicity; it is really worth it. Essential as our souls. People understand each other when they talk about their daily struggles and feelings. There are plenty of nice little moments.
The only problem is that sometimes they speak in Arab or Hebrew and the subtitles are only in French and German; but you can easily understand the movie, most of the time it is in English.
