The movie is supported by two talented actors, Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson. This is not the comedy you laugh out loud but it is full of nice little moments... little dialogue gems here and there. There is a very touching moment when you might have a tear or two rolling on your cheek, when Harvey makes his speech at the wedding.
Both characters are insecure, full of doubts but without being desperate, they just miss this little spark that enlightens life. They are lovable because they are not this arrogant übermench that crash everything around them. There is a beautiful French song 'Les gens qui doutent' (People that have doubts) that would perfectly suit them. Particularly in these times of crisis where people are much more depressed than just a year ago, this little movie makes you feel good for a while and precisely so because it is a sweet moment nothing more.
I am amazed how people are down these days, it is like they forget than the economy works in cycles and we have those tougher times coming back every 5 or 10 years. They are just not prepared and overspend. I do not say that if you lose your job it is not a very difficult situation. And many people lose their jobs because of internal politics and not because they are less worthy than some that stay. It is often unfair. Others however never did much to deserve keeping their jobs.
In a nutshell this is a nice movie, with some excellent lines, light and sweet and it will help you cheer up for a moment even if it is not a punchy or adrenaline laden movie. Just a nice little moment with two lovable characters that deserve a moment of happiness.
