Live from the Met in HD
If you're a fan of really good opera, then you probably already know about the radio broadcasts called Live from the Met and in the States, there's a tv show called Live from the Met with performances on public television. Two years ago, the New York Metropolitan Opera started broadcasting live performances to movie theaters around the world.

Last night, was Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna performing in La Rondine. This season is the first time it's been performed at the Met since the thirties. The staging was gorgeous, and Gheorghiu with a cold is still better than probably 95% of the singers out there. Lisette Oropesa and Marius Brenciu were a treat rounding out the quartet.

If you go to www.cineopera.ch, you can see what's coming up next. For CHF35 (CHF25 if you are a student), you can sit in the comfort of a Balexert movie theater and watch a New York Metropolitan Opera performance. Commentary is in English (pre-performance and at intermission), opera is in whatever language with French subtitles.
