My Blueberry Nights is the first US movie from the highly acclaimed director Wong Kar-Wai (In Mood For Love (unforgettable) and 2046 (a gem) I have to buy the dvd and see it again).
This is a love story, or how to digest a break-up. An initiatory journey , the need to know yourself after a deception... here illustrated by the need to change places, see other cities... in real life it is often an inner journey but most of us know what it means, how it feels.
May be it has some clich?s but the movie is beautifully filmed, romantic, original and poetic. It uses the nice metaphor of keys. For you ladies, Jude Law is certainly cool but we are by far luckier than you with the sweet, charming and delightful Norah Jones.
The lovely Natalie Portman is part of the cast but what did they do to their hair cut, a disaster!!! For you fans of poker (Texas hold'em is it right?) she sums up greatly the game. It is a game of probabilities, so be smart to know what the odds are when you play a hand. But you can never beat luck; this is part of the game you have to accept it.
In short not his best movie but he has the magic touch for such movies, no doubt. I certainly would have loved to write this one.
