I must say that I am a big fan of Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri the most talented French cinema artists! Cuisine et Dépendances (excellent, originally a play), le Goût des Autres (a master piece), On Connait la Chanson (excellent)... and others. They are the Balzacs of modern cinema... their movies are a contemporary human comedy.
I always taught I would meet a lady with whom I would create a similar relationship... love, creativity and success. Well I met her two years ago but it all ended in a total fiasco! So know I have decided to write my movies by myself. I am wondering if I should directly write three movies (something like bleu, blanc, rouge) or just one with my idea. Anyway I will soon post a mail here to interview some ladies because although I have some experience with you, and quite some very different ones, I still need to research a few elements for my social fresco.
Anyway back to the movie, with all the admiration I have for the Bacri/Jaoui duo, and maybe my expectations are too high, this time I was a little disappointed.
The movie is good, dialogues are good, acting is good, the story is good... but it lacks the something more that makes you say: this is just excellent. Yes there are a few good questions on life, a few funny lines, some sweet moments... but it all lacks something. Bacri is touching in his loser's role with his sudden redemption at the end of the movie. In a way he best illustrates the movie itself.
In a nutshell it has its merits but nothing spectacular, up to you to know if you prefer to rent it on DVD or see it on big screen.
