Pirates of the Caribbean 3

I actually enjoyed the movie. I loved the special effects with the Malstrom (where the Black Pearl and the Dutchman got caught). A bit long, but I am a fan of Pirates, so that's cool. Any other impressions?

Hence my favourite part was when he was hallucinating with various other Jack Sparrows … Actually, the movie does lack oomph and purpose when he’s off screen … and there were too many instances of that.
It doesn’t matter whether you’ve watched POTC 1 and 2 or not, you will still be confused. At least I was … I’ll refrain from speaking on behalf of the MENSA masses out there …
I went with my son and it was the first time I have ever been in a packed movie theatre in Geneva since I arrived. To both my son and I, it didn’t matter so much that the movie is an incoherent, overplotted mess. It comes with a charismatic protagonist and enough swashbuckling action and special effects to make you forget the fact that the story is impossible to keep straight. We had a great time.
So, if you are not required to hand in a thesis on the lives and times of mythical pirates, and you are just looking for a great evening, with 3 hrs to kill, then make your way to the theatre and catch this movie. Otherwise, wait for the DVD and rent it …

.... may have had something to do with it. On the spur of the moment, and in an effort to assuage my guilty conscience for having neglected him the whole week, I decided to take my son to watch it last Friday night at Balexert. The 21.15 screening.
We were lucky we got favorably good seats but were really amazed at how significantly full the place looked with about 30 minutes to go before lights out. By the time the movie was starting, groups of friends had had to split to fill in empty seats situated in different rows, with even the rows at the bottom, right under the shadow of the screen, completely occupied. I also know that Sunday and Monday nights were also sold out with my friends failing to get tickets.
Moral of the story: Next instalment of POTC, Rex Cinema will be the place to go for the opening week.

I left in the middle. way to olong and repetetive. you laugh at Jack Sparrow's tactics for the first 30 min, but then it becomes way too repetetive. save yout time and money and don't go.

You are the first one to admit that this movie isn't even funny... which is too bad because I really loved the first one ! Anyway, Thanks for that.

Good sequel trap for those who loved the first one. I felt cheated. The actors acted as though they knew we knew they were really just the celebrities Depp, Bloom and Knightly playing pirates.
Facile would be my term of choice.

Could have been due to a warm cinema, could have been due to watching it the day after the sindy party, in any case i slept soundly for a good portion of the film. Not able to comment on the plot because the before and after sleep sections seemed unconnected. Didn't really find it gripping though, seemed to be the previous two rehashed with less jokes. I suspect even without the wakeparty having savaged my body i might have snoozed a little anyway.

I have only ever walked out of two movies in my life and this was the second! It is utterly awful and the Private Eye review ' the pirates at Disney sail off with your money leaving you marooned in a sea of boredom' is spot on.
I insisted on staying until Keith Richard appeared (almost at the end) He had the only decent joke in the film and was the only good part of it.
What a load of rubbish! next time I want a swashbucklin' pirate movie I'll rent Errol Flynn in Captain Blood.

It's simply a "love it" or "hate it" film.
If you're looking from my side :
I'm a real fan of the film and the reason is that simple : Captain Jack Sparrow and the ability of the director who manages to create lots of small side characters.
Ok I'll not lie to you in one thing and that is the disasterous acting of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley but the rest of the film would probably give a good taste of joy for the fantastic movie lovers...

As some of you said it depends all how you liked the first two... I loved them so I enjoyed that one too... it's epic and fun and Hollywood is good at revisiting myths (The flying Dutchman) and twist them more or less strongly to fit the scenario... Special effects are great (Davie Jones is fabulous) and Depp is excellent as the psycho Pirate but the surprise acting from the first movie is pettering out... I still enjoyed it because it makes fun of a lot of things... and shows the true face of pirates, cruel and bloodthirsty but only if they outnumber the ennemy or if it is weak... otherwise they are rather cowards!!! Survivor instinct I guess!!!! Manipulation, treachery, love, redemption... it is all confusing if you have not in mind sequel one and two... if you haven't seen them at all just forget about it because you won't understand a thing!!!
