Quantum of Solace - good
The last James Bond is a good action movie and if they have dropped the gadget mania of the past their new obsession seems to be human chasing (and car chasing too but that is more in line with this kind of movie).

So the new panacea is James Bond chasing the villain through the crowd, jumping on roofs, scaffoldings balconies... falling and jumping again... We had it in the first 'new' James Bond and we have it now.

The story is OK, the James Bond girl is cute but I cannot get use to the new James Bond actor. He is blond with blue eyes, hormone sculptured body... for me James Bond remains the classy british gentleman that runs and fights and comes out always smartly dressed and without a scratch. Call me a romantic.

The new James Bond fights, hits and kills (he fully uses his license to kill for sure) but looks more like a villain of the past movies with his broken face and bad boy look than a classy gentleman. I know you ladies fall for it. Anyway this is a matter of taste and therefore it does not make the movie a no-goer for me just because of that. I did enjoy it because there is still a lot of this little funny lines between him and M or the CIA. All these little jokes that are so 'sweet'.

In a nutshell a very good James Bond despite my little restrictions on the character. The first movie with the new James Bond ended in contradiction with past stories but everything is put right at the end of this one (I am alluding to his love story). It is worth to be seen but it hurts to see how the Aston Martin is treated.

Dear inmoodfor,

I believe you have hit on the exact arguments between the old 007 fans and the new movies. I for one enjoy the new ones better. I did not mind the others but it was not until Daniel Craig's version of Bond that I really felt like I was seeing James Bond. I guess for me an agent like 007 would get bloody and dirty and probably have a hard time holding it all together at points. I like what they have done with the last two movies as they are much deeper into the mind of the character.

In Casino Royale which I like a bit better than this one there was a scene when he was playing poker and they took a break and he went down killed to people and than had to come back up like nothing happened. In the past we would have seen the three guys go into the room maybe heard a few noises and had Bond come out like superman untouched.  The new bond is touched and effected by what he does and he still puts it together to show the bond face, or atleast in Casino Royale.  In this one, was a bigger truly a bigger departure from the character, very little glitz and a lot of dirt and grime and a 3rd of the movie he has blood on his shirt. But still there is more of the inner battle going on and we allowed to see it. I like it this way.

But for the record nearly everyone I know likes the old ones better. They liked the perfect Bond, seldom seen rattled, seldom effected by what is going on.

I thought Marc Foster was a strange choice to direct a Bond film, but it was interesting. Foster's films are always character based movies that give us a look inside someone. Kite Runner, Finding Neverland, Stranger than Fiction, Monster's Ball.  And he did it here too. I thought the action was a little carried away in this, but it was more in touch with the old bond in someways like that. But overall for the first time ever I am actually interested in what Bond may do next.  After Casino Royale I looked forward to this movie. Now though the character seems to have completed the mission, now what?

It is possible that one or two of the other actors that played Bond could have also done this version of Bond, but I am happy to see Daniel Craig in this role. He has been interesting. But for sure it is not like the old ones.

I just saw the film tonight and really pleased with what the writers, directors and producers are doing. This is so much closer to the character Ian Fleming created - Bond wasn't a particularly nice person, a charming hedonistic killer. However, Bond films have always appeared to be a good social weathervane. Connery was and still is the best because he defined the style for the time - glamourous, international tough, flirt. Moore was dreadful although Live and Let Die was probably one of the best Bond films after No and Thunderball. However his oscar winning eyebrows and limp lines contributed to an otherwise fairly vacant artistic era (at least until Punk arrived). Dalton's metrosexuality was enough to make you gag... Brosnan implied a kind of vacuous toughness. They have all seemed to try represent a fashion that men want to be and women want to have. My impression listening to people, is that guys think our current hero is OK whereas the girls think he is a bit too cold and nasty. Maybe Ian Fleming has stopped turning in his grave!
