This is the story of a couple beautifully impersonated by Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet. it is a very touching story but very sad. A couple that believes that they are special get entangled in a conventional life with no excitement. He has a job that he is not excited about at all and fears of finishing in a ocean of mediocrity. She is a wannabe actress that might lack talent and takes care of their two children in a suburb that has nothing special and looks so plain like any other suburb of middle class America.
The movie is beautiful because it touches the delicate subject of love, conventional life, the desire to change it and raises the questions of what is happiness? How can we be happy? Should we give up on our dreams? What when you are unhappy but you get a terrific job opportunity? Is it better somewhere else or is it people that make their own happiness? Who writes the rules?
I guess many people would be afraid to see that they have been trapped in the same dilemma as this couple but it might just give them the electro-choc to change a few things.
The movie is beautifully screened and the character of the crazy guy is used as the serum of truth. How would you react if someone really came to you and opened your eyes? Once again the fool might not be the one everybody thinks! Once again this reminds me the beatles' song 'The Fool on the Hill'.
After his excellent 'American Beauty' Sam Mendes strikes again and with brio! Again he is supported by excellent acting and great screening. Although my movie should be less dramatic this is what I would love to achieve.
In a nutshell a must see movie, not the one that will cheer you up but that will make you think a lot and may be push you to make a few sound changes in your life and you do not need to go to Paris to be happy...
