Shipping via Amazon
Hi folks,

This isn't related to a book review or anything like that...but is probally the best place for me to post something like this.

If I were to buy books off Amazon.com (for personal use)and have them shipped from the US to Switzerland...would I be charged any duty or taxes? Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks,
Brian

if you order dvds (of which the writers share a paltry 0.3% residual), depending on the value (think it's above CHF50), you will pay a 7.5% VAT. It still makes it worth it, most of the time. Just be aware that you might need a multi-region dvd player.
Books, I think the VAT kicks in around the CHF200 mark, if at all, but I'm not sure as that seems a little more arbitrary. Would love for someone to explain it to me in short simple sentences with words of no more than 2 syllables. :)

There's also Off the Shelf on blvd Georges Favon and Payot on Chantepoulet.

I usually order my english books through the Amazon german website (they have a separate section for english books)

The advantage is there is no delivery fee to Geneva and they also take off a small amt for the german tax. (although euro has gotten stronger) They do sometimes take a bit longer to deliver books which are not in immediate stock.
