I will try and give a fair review for the film, as I am at the disadvantage of having read the books a few years ago, and started reading them again recently. The film itself was very spectacular, full of action, amazing scenery and very good animations of the animals. It moves along at a good pace and always comes up with a treat. All in all a very good film as far as films go.
Now if you have read the books before and haven't seen the film yet, I would reccomend watching it on DVD, there are parts that are very true to the book, but I would only say 40% it really wasn't faithful to the book, and my imagination and my expectations left me very dissapointed.
If you want to read the books watch the film first then read them, this way you will enjoy the film, and enjoy the books even more.

Always the same, between a movie made out of a good book, you have to read it first then see the movie. I saw it because my girlfriend is a big fan of this kind of fantasies movies. I guest i grow up too fast. Don't want to spoil it, but i didn't know about the "ending" which was a big disappointment for me. Anyway i just found out what to buy for christmas for my girlfriend :)

as if the movie was taking on a huge quest and did not really spend a lot of time developing things. It is a spectacular film with a great production team doing wonderful work. It is a movie that can awe you with effects and wow you with wonderful imagery. And the cast does a great job as well. But I just got the feeling that there was a couple points that they chose gloss over substance. Again I have not read the books so I do not know where they are, but I will read the book to find them.
I really liked the movie, it is great fantasy and I can not wait for the rest of them to come.. this is a series is it not? It felt like one and ended like one.

Although the ending of the film is not the ending of the first book, and they jumbled quite a few things up.
