Superb music, and by the young boy who played the role of young Hassan - everytime I saw him on the screen, tears came to my eyes for his innocance and how life can be tough and unfair sometimes.

This is a story about friendship between two boys (and how far you can go and the price you pay for it), and a story about the relationship between a father and his son (how to teach him values like honour and courage).
In short two boys grow up happily in Kabul playing with kites (beautiful pictures of the kite competition with all the colours, a metaphore for liberty) they are the closest friends although one is the son of a wealthy family and the other the son of the caretaker of the house. This is not a problem for the boys and they grow up happily playing together until the day when the boy from the caretaker lives through a terrible experience. The other boy sees what happens but being scared, he is not able to prevent the worst. After that event nothing is the same and something is broken. This is what happens when people cannot communicate together. The rich boy because he feels he has been a coward makes everything to make the other boy hate him and leave. The other remains true to his friend despite all the bad behaviour from his friend. Generous, loyal and faithful... a beautiful attitude, a great sense of honour. The price he had to pay for being true to his friend he could not anticipate it will be so high. However what really hurts is the attitude of his friend. You expect your ennemies to be cruel to you but when it comes from your close friend it really hurts.
Then Russian enter in Kaboul and the rich family runs away to the US. The father works as a cashier at a gas station but can offer to his son the opportunity to go to University. Another beautiful example of what real life is. You have to fight for those you love and work hard, not complain and give up.
This movie is beautiful but it is very sad and cruel. You come out of the movie theater shacken by this powerful story but with hope too. It gives you a lot of strength.
The book must be great.
