The Oil Crash
A documentary again... it has become fashionable and you can make a lot of money out of it because the costs of producing them are so low compared to a blockbuster! Find a scary topic or an outrageous theme and bingo!

Whatever you think this documentary has the merits of being well structured (thesis, antithesis and conclusion) and compared to We Feed the World the solution is less easy to find! This is a ‘screened’ version of Twilight in the Desert or the End of Oil for those who ‘enjoyed’ those readings.

We are addicted to cheap energy and if you complain about the price of gasoline at the pump (I don't I do not have a car... so I am doing my part to save our planet!!!) this documentary will make you fill your tank with a big smile next time! Enjoy the party until it lasts! And yes fly as much as you can because your grand children won’t see so much of the world as you do!

The problem with this subject is that you do not really know where we truly stand… but we are in trouble if we carry on like we do, that’s for sure…

I believe in man's creativity and we will find something but the clock is ticking, so it has better to be quick. Nuclear energy is not the answer because Uranium is rather scarce… Renewable energy is still at its infancy. Do we have the components for solar energy farms at a big scale? One thing is sure, we are not moving fast enough; the US has more troubles than us here due to the structure of its cities, but in the end we are in the same boat.

If I recall correctly, 1 baril of Oil is 25'000 Hours of human work to produce the same amount of energy... do your maths to know who much you work in a year! Ok it seems a lot to me 25'000 hours, whatever the true figure it is a lot of working hours...

Buy a horse before prices go up!

Hi, surprised that nobody has replied to this posting already, especially given the interesting and important nature of the topic. I have not seen the documentary myself but will keep an eye out for it. I share your views about the era of cheap energy and the addiction to oil. Add climate change into the mix and it really is one of the most important issues that faces all of mankind. Renewable energy was one of the highlights of the World Economic Forum in Davos this year and rightly so. Some have high hopes for biofuels such as ethanol which sounds promising, but even then there are limitations at the moment. Science is moving things forward, but responsible citizens should do what they can to reduce their carbon footprint and to be more efficient with existing resources.

I will go to see this film today (Tues 29/5) before it disappears from the cinema. Meet in the foyer of the Europlex Rialto Cornavin at 1700. I will be wearing a blue Columbia bicycle top.
