Waitress - opens Wednesday
I really hate it when I close a tab by mistake... ARGH!

SO, Waitress, my one regret of the summer is that I didn't get to see it in the theater. It was one of two films I had wanted to see while I was home, the other being Die Hard 4. Waitress is an independent film that did well at Sundance. Adrienne Shelly who wrote, directed and acted in it was murdered this past Fall adding a tragic light to the story and making the ending particularly poignant. It was a fairly limited release in the States and when I got home, it was playing in a whopping two theaters nowhere near my parents. By the time I finally could have gotten to see it, it wasn't playing anymore.

Happily, when I got on board the flight to come back, Waitress was one of the options for in-flight movies. Not the optimal way to see a film, but when there's no known release date for it to play where I live, I was thrilled. As I rode the bus home yesterday, I saw it advertised at the theater on Chantepoulet for opening tomorrow night.

The film itself is sweet as pie. Keri Russell is an absolute treat and Andy Griffith is just too cool. Nathan Fillion, though, who I think is excellent as Bill Pardy and Malcolm Reynolds, was a little off as Dr. Pomatter. I don't know what it was, but I just didn't totally buy into the character. Maybe it's because for a Canadian playing a doctor from Connecticut, he had a tendency to drawl a bit (much like Malcolm Reynolds, Caleb, etc...).

Anyways, given it's the first week back with students, I don't think I'm going to get to the theater until the weekend, but I'm really looking forward to seeing this not on an airplane!
