We feed the world - documentary
I do not get the feeling we learn much out of it, but it is worth seeing and certainly the numbers pronounced by Jean Ziegler are frightening... but not sure if he has the right answers... I do not think that to save our planet the political fight between right and left is the answer. Not that the documentary really takes sides it just points out to the contradiction we live in. Brabek (the CEO from Nestle) has some points too. I think as long as, us as individuals do not do our part, is it because of lack of information or out of laziness, we won’t save this planet. Just an example, the documentary does not talk about it, but is the Biofuel really less polluting than oil… I mean has someone seriously taken into consideration all the added cost of biofuel (like is there enough land to do it on a large scale, what about the price of other agricultural products…)… or we want renewable enrgy and find the windmills ugly (not me I quite like then!) but these are other questions that are not the subject of the doc, these are not food issues (the first one in a sense yes). In a nutshell it is worth seeing it but do not expect something new… and above all it raises questions but never tries to address them seriously.

You need either to know German or French to understand it.

Will have to check out this documentary as well. Thanks for the details. In terms of food supply, there was an article in the Financial Times magazine recently about people who raid the rubbish-bins outside supermarkets. Basically, once any un-sold food in the supermarket reaches its "best before date / consume by date" it has to be thrown away, even though it is still in perfect condition. To me it sounds like a terrible and vast waste. Surely it cannot be that difficult to find an economic and responsible solution?

p.s. windmills are fine by me too, as is tidal power, wave power etc.
