Year in the Merde?

I haven't read it, yet, but I know it was making the rounds among some people on this site. If you've read it, what did you think? Worth picking up?

You're right Kate, i would definately reccomend it...a quick, easy read..I think Tigger has my copy although not too sure.
A Year In The Merde is a semi biographical story of Paul West, a 27-year-old Brit who is brought to Paris by a French company to open a chain of British "tea rooms." He soon becomes immersed in the hilarious contradictions of French culture.
It gives some very good insights and insider tips on how to live like a native in Paris which could easily be applied to us in Geneva.
The best way to find an apartment is to fall in love/lust with someone and move in (could be a good idea for some of you who are still looking for something in GE). Sex with the boss's amoral daughter in this case works just fine also (something that wouldn't apply to me as she's seriously under age).
Included are also notes on how to cope with the infamous French bureaucracy for example Having a friend at the bank makes it easier to get a loan. This, of course, is universal.
This has to be one of the most enjoyable books I have read recently.
The story is well told, with just the right balance between understatement and outright hilarity.
For those of you who have read this book and enjoyed it it appears that Clarke is working on the "next volume of Paul West's adventures."
Savor the merde!
