There is a short (160 pages), very well written, very down to earth book that helps greatly in understanding the history of Ivory Coast, going back to the days where the region was populated mostly by pygmees. It provides great insights about what is going on there.
This is from an African author that is not just looking for quick money on breaking news:
"Quand on refuse on dit non", from A. KOUROUMA (160p.)
Current edition is (unfortunately) only in french as far as I know.
Cheers,
B.
