I go by the Cin? 17 at least once a week and keep seeing this movie, Little Children, on week after week. I thought it should be a good movie if it is on for so long and in that movie theatre. So I went for it and wasn't disappointed.
The movie is about love, dreams, couples that do not work and how it is so damn difficult to be happy. Why is it so complicated to find this special person, why is it so problematic to stay in love... it is the greatest adventure on this planet but it is so arduous to find that person and if you find it not to lose it.
Here you have a young mother meeting a young father at a small children's play ground and what starts as a joke goes kind of out of control. There is a parallel story of a guy that has pervert attraction for children and comes back from jail to live in this middleclass to upperclass neighbourhood with plenty of toddlers.
The movie has a literary tone, Madame Bovary is discussed... a woman should not give up on love, passion and pleasure just because of conservative values, social pressure or religion if here husband is not up to it, then, in my opinion she should leave (not easy choice, and there is other issues but...) Note it is the same if the lady is not up to it. It should be the last resort, things should be discussed first (easy to say) but we have only one life so do not waste it without loving and being loved!!! Without giving and having pleasure!!!
And last but not least there is this voice off that comments the events... this is personal but it is something I like a lot in a movie, gives a special flavour to a movie. The movie comes from a book; I haven't read it so I do not know if it is a good adaptation. But the movie is excellent, poetic, and sometimes sad. Actors are great, Kate Winslet so cute and sweet. The guy has lost self-confidence, is still a child so don't be so harsh on him. You understand how they feel and you are close to them, I felt a lot of sympathy for both of them.
The end might come as a surprise.
There is only one screening time, 18h00 but it is really worth a go and is in English. Not sure it will stay on for much longer.
