Arriving from Canada in August/September

Hi everyone!

I'm Stuart and my wife and I will be moving to Lausanne/Geneva around the end of August, I am starting at EPFL in September (I'm a computer engineer). I say Geneva because my wife may be going to school around there as well. Starting to look for an apartment in Geneva, so any tips are definitely appreciated!

Thanks

Welcome (soon) to Geneva/Lausanne!

The tips for house hunting in Geneva:

1. Be ready to compromise, because the market is super tight. There's very little supply, and when a good apt is put on the market, tens of people compete for it.

2. Be ready for a potential long wait (for the same reason)

3. Be ready to pay more than you planned...

But except for the housing situation, you're coming to a great place to live in.

Try looking over the border in France - less of a problem and less expensive. If you need any further help or advice [we live in France] just let us know. All the best. Bon voyage.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately I believe my work visa doesn't allow me to live in France, which is too bad!

Hi! I lived in Canada, love the country. You know comparis.ch and anibis.ch?

Yup, I've found those and lots of sites to search for a place. Not a lot available for September yet though.

Alas, there’s never a lot on offer at any time.  As Nir explained, we all have to be prepared to wait until we eventually strike lucky and find a place we like and can afford.

All the best, R.
