I am also moving is July/August and I would love to start the search for a place to live early. However, I think you will find that no one is willing to rent to someone without the necessary docs and a physical face!

Hi... if you want help on a place... then you can scan www.homegate.ch for now, it's a website that holds all the flats, houses etc... for rent and to buy... The gentleman is right, you will need documentation from the Swiss bueros if you choose to rent permanently straight away, this documentation is to show you are not in debt or bankrupt.

But when my fiance and I moved over last october, we found a great deal on homegate of a gentleman who was going away for 7 months on holiday and army service and was renting his fully furnished flat to us... We flew over and met him once gave him a job reference and that was satisfactory and the exchange took place. It was a god send as we were new to the area and it made settling in much easier... So have a look on Homegate... there is an english version too.

Good luck.. and welcome... :)

Hey Maysa (& bean also perhaps)....I'm moving to Geneva in early September to start a Masters at IHEID and am looking to find and share a flat with other students/young people. What do you think? Would you be interested?

Cheers,

Sandra

i guess everyone has been so helpful and right regarding meeting the landlord in person, and  i've been told that however, it is so difficult to find an apart. at least a roof over my head for the first 3 months ha ha , probably it's best to arrive earlier and start looking in person, i submitted a request in all real estates i lausanne and switzerland, ha ha ha, actually i contacted a real estate agent in london to find me something in lausanne i think he thought i was crazy..anyway thanks for the reply and pleassssssssse keep me posted
