Canadian, new to Geneva

Hello everyone!

My name is Evan and I am from Ottawa, Canada. I arrived in Geneva three weeks ago to begin my first experience as an au-pair. The family was looking for someone for the next 8 months, and I planned on going back to school for a masters come September, so needless to say the timing was perfect and now here I am in a beautiful city for my first European adventure.

I joined this site because I want to establish a solid social life here. I'm too much of an extrovert to be sitting around doing nothing in my free time, so I was recommended this site to meet new people and to discover activities.

I am very eager to meet good people to have some good times with, whether that be playing football, watching a game, pub trivia (one of my favourite things to do with friends), or simply chilling. I'm also keen on getting my French back... since I am Canadian, I was obliged to take French during school and I had a solid level of conversational-French, but like all things you don't keep practicing, I lost a good chunk of my ability. One of my goals is to be fully bilingual by the time my contract is over in August.

Cheers,

Evan

Thanks Gilberto!

I just joined the group but there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity on it. I'll have to make a post in it and gather some Canucks for a pub night ahah.

Hey Evan,

Welcome to Switzerland.

There are quite a few Canadians in Bern too so if you have questions I am sure that you can find an answer or two.  For example:

Can you get maple syrup @ yes Coop sells it.

Can you get Moosehead? Yes there is a beer store at the Bahnhof that sells it  (They also sell good Belgian beer so why would you drink Canadian lager.)

Ginger ale for your rye and ginger? @Some Coop stores have small bottles of Schweppes.

Where can you get poutine? @ Have not found it but rösti is better imho.

Where can you finder beaver tails? @ Out of luck there. (Note to non-Canucks beavertails are a fried pastry. They not part of a large rodent because that would be cruel and if you are thinking of something else, you really need to get out more)
