Century 21 Real Estate Agents in Veigy

We lived in Veigy (a frontalier town for Geneva) for two years and we had a really bad experience with the Century 21 real estate office there.

First they gave us larger m2 numbers for the house and only when the contract was to be signed they showed an about 10% lower number - when it was too late to step down.

Now that we moved out the agent checked the place in every detail, which I have not seen before and which was not the case to that detail when we moved in (and I didn´t take detail photos, which I should have done). Of cause she found a few  things (at least one of which was there when we moved in) and now we can say good bye to our deposit...

I am posting this here on the one hand as a warning for others, but on the other hand to ask for your experience and how one can avoid these bad experiences.

The text you are quoting:

Be it Century 21 or any other estate agent, they are all the same...

My advice when moving in is to go through every single part of the premises with the agent, carefully go through the list then tick ok or not ok PLUS write down exactly what is wrong.

Open every door, turn the door knobs, check the oven, run all taps, open every door of any furniture on site to see if they work fine. Check tiles on floor (in case a tile is split or broken), check the toilet flush (it could be broken).  Do not hesitate to run your fingers anywhere you think looks suspicious. Switch lights on. Check the air ventilating thing in the bathroom, if it is dirty upon moving in, it has to be stated on your list.

Also, it is a good idea to ask to come back for a second viewing at a different time during the day, i.e. when people are back from work as the noise level can be really much higher.

When it comes to the inventory and state of the premises, if I remember, you have 7 or 14 days, once you have moved in, to add anything else you would have noticed.  Agents usually take photos but it does not stop you from taking photos too.  make sure you write things down and keep a proof of receipt from them (i.e. email acknowledge) or best is a register mail.  It is time consuming but it worth doing it thoroughly as it can save you a lot of money and stress.

Good luck!
