Well, I introduced myself back in July, but it was pre-emptive.
I am now here full-time with my family. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you - both online and offline - and finding out what great stuff there is to do here.
Right now, I'm desperately interested in:
1. Volleyball
2. Apple Macintosh
3. Activities for my six year old (karate, guitar lessons, football, swimming, etc.)
4. Bagels - where can I get them?
5. Renting bikes
6. what to do this weekend - is anyone doing the Rallye des Nations?
7. What is the best look-out point in town? Any restaurants on the top floor of tall buildings?
More later, but just happy to be here.

sorry we missed meeting each other in Moscow, but looking forward to meeting you soon.
4. If you find a bagel place, do let me know, but if you're desparate, Starbucks can set you back about 8francs for a lox & bagel, or 4+francs for cream chs sesame bagel
5. You can rent bikes near the train station, or at Bans de paquis. It's free for couple of hours.
7. there's not that many 'tall' bldgs in central geneva if you haven't noticed. I'm told there's some regulation about not bldg anything taller than the cathedral. Having said that, there's the rodeo down by Quai de Seujet, Rue St. Jean that has a nice view on a nice sunny day.
ciao

Yeah, I found the bagels at Starbucks, but to be honest, besides being too expensive, they weren't that good. The cream cheese had a weird after-taste, too.
I want Bethesda Bagels to open a branch in Geneva. ;)

Well if you really miss them badly come visit Zürich...there is a place called www.mybagel.ch which makes bagel sandwiches...but surely they make them fresh at their brick&mortar store.
Niederdorfstrasse 41
8001 Zürich
(150 m vom Central)
opening hours:
monday - friday 09.00 - 19.00
saturday 09.00 - 18.00
sunday 10.00 - 17.00
Otherwise...it might be better to find a good recipe and make them yourself. :) If you do that, let me know how it turns out!! This actually makes me want to experiment...
I do not know how it is in Geneva...but you can buy Philadelphia (brand) cream cheese in the grocery stores in Zürich if you prefer that flavor.

Welcome (now in person) to Geneva. Hope you guys like it.
Here's answers to some of your questions:
1. Volleyball
Check out the Geneva Volley Ball association site. They got a list of serious teams, and also of team playing in their 'relax' leauge, which is less competetive. I used to play in the regional leauge until 5 years ago, but now focus more on staying home on the couch watcing TV and eating stuff.
3. Activities for my six year old (karate, guitar lessons, football, swimming, etc.)
Which area do you guys live in? Let me know, and I'll see if I can help.
4. Bagels - where can I get them?
Forget about it! You already saw StarBucks ain't it. Come on, embrace the local cultures: goodbye bagels, hello french croisants...(-:
5. Renting bikes
I saw you got a reply.
6. what to do this weekend - is anyone doing the Rallye des Nations?
Check out the Member-Activities section, or post your own Activity...
7. What is the best look-out point in town? Any restaurants on the top floor of tall buildings?
By far, the view point off Cologny. I'll try to get you the exact address...Ain't no resto on tall buildings in the city itself, but there are some in the surrounding mountains, with amazing views of the city. Do you have a car already?

And, I'll follow up on the other things.
Now, I'm trying to find some football for my son, too. I found intersoccer.ch, but the three locations are quite far away from home/school and we can't get there after school before the class is over.
Are there better options?
Thanks,
Zonker

Ummm, I did a search for Bans de paquis with no success. Do you have a specific address or a telephone number?
I will try GenevaRoule this afternoon.

Thanks, I took a look but it's not obvious (to me) how to join, yet. I hope I'll figure it out.
We are currently in Servette.
I've had my share of croissants (lived in France), plus they are available in any major city, even Moscow. So, there is nothing really to embrace. I'll keep dreaming. ;)
Ummm, I just arrived and I'm looking for something for my son to do. If I had an activity to post, I wouldn't be asking. The activity section does not seem to be very kids-oriented.
Thanks again for the response.
