My name is Pos, I am moving to Zurich in Sept, mit mein Schweizerin Frau and thought I would take the preemptive steps of introducing myself and my bride to you the Glocal crew... All in hope of not going through the hard lonely times of being friendless in a new city.
So ABOUT US: Moni (the wife) my princess is studying linguistics at ZHAW uni in Winterthur. Major of >French, German, English and minor of Chinese. Her hobbies are Spanish (we lived in Spain 5mth of 2006) and singing classes... Moni is a sporty little lady up early every morning for aerobics and a jog, before heading off to school or one of her 3 jobs. Jobs include Helvetia (translator), private language classes for business people and her summer job is with a Food and Bev company translating their new web site. Before her ZHAW days she was into IT... Smart, Beautiful, Fun and adventurous... I am the luckiest man in the world!
ME: I am at present learning German at Migro Club School as many of you may have done along the way. A hairdresser by trade, I have also made the steps into setting a up a Kiteboarding tour company in Switzerland looking to teaching this great sport to the people of Switzerland. I have been Kiteboarding since 2002 and it has dominated my life since then... Although a little hard in Switzerland I do manage a day or two on the water here and there. I like to rock climb, MTB and in general any extreme sport.
Looking forward to meeting "new friends" and over time becoming old friends...
Hope u all enjoy these sunny days that are being blessed upon us.
Ciao for now and schöne tag mittenand (spelling?):D

Welcome to Zurich, and to glocals!
I loved your intro...seems folks in Zurich have a talent for writing nice intros (like this other one from Fairydust).
The kitesurfing sounds great!!! Can you also do it in Winter, or is it only a summer thing?
And about those lonely first weeks in Zurich...honetly: you'll probably have to face them, like most of us did. The first few weeks ain't easy. But if you're willing to make the effort to get out there and meet new folks, those first few weeks will pass real quick. It already sounds like Moni is a little energy bomb, so I'm sure you'll have no issues.
The best advice I can give you is to check out the Member-Activities section on glocals.com, and join activities you like. Or just post an activity on your own. It's a great way to do stuff, and meet new people.
Last thing - a great coming up opportunity to meet new Zurich folks is in the glocals BBQ in Zurich this coming Thu. Hope to see you guys there.
Welcome to Zurich and to glocals!

About the winter kite... Switzerland is better for kiting in winter as we do it on snow with snow skis or snowboards... You can do this on any flat or undulating field, you can if the wind is right even go up quite steep hills. In summer we have more of a problem as with many lakes it is forbidden. Zuri-lake is not allowed to kitesurf, Rorschach on Bodensee is forbidden and many more...
So winter is great... Maybe I could run some workshops for people to have a little play when we get some snow. For the Kitesurfing I most like to goto El Gauna in Egypt... Very warm waist deep water for as far as you can walk, so no fear of getting stuck at sea, just walk back.
chatter soon and enjoy summer in the Schweiz whilst it lasts...
