From Barcelona to Geneva
Hi all,

I've just recently joined and would like to introduce myself. I'm 29 y/o Swedish-American, raised in Spain since I was 9, I've been living in Barcelona since 1997 and currently work for Citi (before Citigroup). I've been to Switzerland twice, I came specially in august 2007 to see The Rolling Stones (yes, I am a groupie LOL) in Lausanne, I stayed in Montreux but didn't see Geneva (besides the airport). Last week was my second time there, this time we stayed in Geneva and did a little day trip to Montreux. I have to say that both times I've been there I've really enjoyed everything about it, the weather was good, the people are very friendly, the scenary is amazing, what else can I say? So, my intention now is to move to Geneva, hopefully get a transfer within the company.

I'm here to get to know people and hopefully make some good friends, so feel free to drop me a line. I'm not sure when I'll be going back, but I guess sometime before the summer is over.

Regards,

Oliver :)

Hello Oliver

Nice to hear that your first impressions were great! Hope you manage to move. The mainshortcoming of Switzerland is its social life, but with glocals, the problem is solved. You'll meet tons of great people from all the world over.

I might be bringing some friends with me to live there, for the moment 4 are considering moving there as well, although only 1 is 100% certain about it. We'll see what happens...

Bienvenue a Geneve - bienvenida en Ginebra!

Summer is a great time to be here so I highly recommend that you visit again before winter hits - hay muchas fiestas en este momento and a good time to meet new people.  Things slow down a little in winter but with glocals and the awesome skiing there is still fun to be had!

Hasta luego

Merci Ladiluxx,

It really seemed great when I was there a couple of weeks ago, unfortunetaly I was only there 4 days. What I'm curious about is.....the winter! Do you have really long/cold winters? When does it start getting nice in spring? Here usually around april-may. I must make it there for a few days in winter just to see how it is (if I haven't moved there already) :P

Hello

I am glad to hear that it is easy to adapt in Switzerland.

I am myslef living in Barcelona and I will move to Zurich this month of October. As you know, in Barcelona people use to have big social life activities and the being a comsmopolitan city, it is very easy to meet new people.

So I am a bit afraid of missing that when I am in Zurich.

I have been visiting 3 times a friend. I like the city even it is quiet small and it seems like people make a lot of activities arround the lake.

Maybe we can keep in touch, so you can guide when I will be there and have talk about Barcelona.

Keep in touch,

Julie

Hey Oliver,

Getting back to you re winter/summer in Geneva.  Well...Geneva most definitely does not have the same climate as Barcelona.  Winter can get cold and can last a while but you know, with the mountains soooo close, you can have a great time skiing/boarding etc.  There are ski clubs in Geneva if you don't have a car and I am sure that there will be heaps of activities posted on Glocals.  Spring usually hits around april/may.

Life in Geneva and life in Barcelona are two very different things so I suppose when you come to Geneva it's to find something else.  Though la fiesta is still in Barna....;-)

Good luck with your decision to move and if you need any more info just ask away!

Hi Julie,

Yeah I know what you mean about Barcelona, it's so easy to meet people and there are always things happening here, but life is so expensive here and the low salaries make it even more complicated. Switzerland isn't far at all from Spain and flights are quite cheap from what I've seen, so when I make it over to Geneva I'll most likely be back in Barcelona  least once a month for a short/crazy weekend :)

Regards,

Oliver
